Our Mission: Together We Change Lives, And That Includes Yours.

About the Role

We’re searching for a committed and experienced Inspectorate Team Leader based in North Queensland (with flexibility to be located anywhere between Rockhampton to Cairns). You will lead and support a team of Inspectors who protect animals across the state. In this role, you’ll oversee day-to-day operations within your geographical zone, ensuring inspectors are trained, equipped and supported to carry out their duties safely, effectively and in accordance with legislation and RSPCA Queensland procedures.

You’ll lead recruitment, induction, capability development and on-road training, while providing technical guidance on complex matters and high-risk operations. You’ll manage resource allocation, performance, case reviews and operational coverage, all while fostering a culture of engagement, collaboration and safety. Your leadership will directly strengthen the quality and consistency of our Inspectorate services throughout the state.

What We’re Looking For

You’re a steady, people-focused leader who brings calm, clarity and confidence to fast-paced and sometimes challenging environments. You build trust quickly, communicate openly and support your team with fairness, empathy and strong professional judgement.

You have a natural ability to coach and develop others, and you enjoy seeing your team grow in capability and confidence. You’re approachable, solution-focused and resilient - someone who can navigate complexity without losing sight of the people involved.

You’re also highly organised and comfortable balancing competing priorities across a broad region. Safety, consistency and ethical decision-making matter deeply to you, and you lead by example in upholding these standards. Above all, you’re motivated by purpose and committed to leading a team that protects animals and strengthens animal welfare outcomes across Queensland.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, mentor and support your team of Inspectors to ensure safe, consistent and high-quality service delivery.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations within your geographical zone, including job allocation, resource planning and coverage.
  • Provide on-road guidance and attend high-risk or complex operations to support inspectors in the field.
  • Manage performance and capability development through regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching and training.
  • Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, induction and ongoing capability-building for new Inspectors.
  • Offer technical advice on legislation, case management and operational procedures.
  • Review cases, documentation and evidence to support compliance, sound decision-making and potential prosecutions.
  • Foster a safe, collaborative and inclusive team culture aligned with RSPCA Qld values.
  • Ensure safe work practices and support inspectors to manage risks in field operations.
  • Assist in managing and investigating complaints involving inspectors within your zone.
  • Build strong relationships with Queensland Police, government agencies, veterinarians and other partners.
  • Support community outreach initiatives and contribute to the improvement of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide operational coverage during peak periods, including stepping into inspector duties when required.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Appointment as an Inspector under the ACPA with relevant field experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ACPA, RSPCA/DPI SOPs and internal procedures.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to coach, mentor and manage performance.
  • Ability to assess capability, allocate work effectively and provide technical guidance.
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Solid organisational skills and the ability to manage competing operational priorities.
  • Confidence preparing documentation such as warrants, briefs and reports.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and continuous improvement.
  • Good computer literacy and ability to use operational systems.
  • Diploma in Government Investigations (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current QLD driver’s licence and capacity for manual handling (minimum 15kg).
  • Genuine commitment to animal welfare and alignment with RSPCA Qld values.
